M2M (Machine-to-Machine) services refer to the ability for two devices to establish data communications, over a wireless network, for telemetry or remote control purposes, for example, automatic meter reading, supply chain tracking, insurance, and transportation. On GSM/GPRS/UMTS networks, communications typically use SMS, USSD, GPRS, or UMTS data mediums.
As wireless data networks are becoming more cost-efficient, M2M possibilities are growing. However, with millions of devices/subscribers and very low traffic per device, ARPU opportunities can be limited.
With the highest subscriber density in the market and increased flexibility and customization, the Blueslice ngHLR 3000™ solves these challenges for M2M operators. The ngHLR 3000™ is a cost-effective and scalable HLR/AuC/HSS, with customizable M2M specific profiles, IP/XML-based data access for M2M servers, location update tracking, and integrated advanced low cost roaming solutions for global coverage.
Previously, M2M operators had to provision all devices (IMSIs) on legacy HLRs, and wholesale agreements and rate plans were not tailored for this market. Further, there was limited access to a device's GSM profile and location. Now, there is no need to host M2M devices on the MNO's HLR, resulting in reduced hosting fees to the M2M provider. The Blueslice ngHLR 3000™ hosts both GSM profiles and M2M profiles, enabling device control and monitoring infrastructure to link instantly with XML-based access, while reducing hosting fees and usage charges.
